Norman Matlock

Alto Saxophone

Norman Matlock’s entrance into music was as a singer, when as a college student, he started singing with a doo-wop group. They became very popular on Penn State’s campus, as they performed all of the classic Motown songs. After college, Norman picked up the flute and eventually it led him to Ray Wright’s Jasz Lab band. Norman played with this band for about 10 years.

Norman has also “sat-in” with numerous jazz bands over the years. Kenny Garrett, alto sax player, is Norman’s favorite sax player and he gets much of his inspiration from listening to Kenny Garrett play.

Finally, Norman has always wanted to play in a jazz big band, and he is very excited and grateful for this opportunity.
